HZ Community HZ Explore

HZ Explore is a new education programme for all HZ students following a full-time or part-time course of study. The programme consists of 44 activity packages. The programme is made up of activity packages worth 1.25 or 2.5 credits. Depending on your course's programme and mode of study, you'll choose a number of activity packages during your first two years of study. All activities are aimed at personal development. Meeting and connecting with other students is central to the programme. The activities are based on the inner development goals: goals focused on self-development and a sustainable future.

For part-time courses, HZ Explore is offered in two ways.

Choose what suits you

You might think of following arts and culture programmes, doing voluntary work, joining a book or games club, or working on your vitality. Other examples include molecular cooking, the debating club or getting involved in greening the area around HZ. It's a programme accessible to all students.

The activity packages are divided into seven categories: Vitality & wellbeing, Sustainability & environment, Intercultural sensitivity, Creativity & innovation, Culture & heritage, Societal impact and Professional development.

Structure of an activity

An HZ Explore activity package consists of self-study, attending sessions and/or visiting activities. Each activity package is concluded with an assessment. There are enough free places available for every student. This includes materials and, for example, your cinema or theatre ticket.

Part-time

For part-time courses, HZ Explore is offered in two ways. The form that applies to you is stated in your course's implementation regulations. Not sure? Check with your SLC.

If the learning objectives of HZ Explore have been incorporated into your course's learning outcomes, you'll automatically be working towards them. So you don't need to do anything extra.

Is HZ Explore a separate component in your programme? Then you choose from two options:

Design your own activity 

You set your own learning objectives, draw up a plan of action and demonstrate your development in a portfolio.

Choose an activity package 

Choose from more than forty ready-made packages, featuring a mix of self-study, sessions and activities.

Registration for both the pathway-independent activities and the activity packages opens from the second week of September.

With HZ Explore, you get the chance to broaden your knowledge and interests. You can register for the activity packages during the registration week, from 7 to 13 September.
