Do you want to make a difference for others whilst working on your own development? In this programme, you and fellow students will organise an event for a good cause.

What will you be doing?

You will form a team and work together to devise an event for an association, foundation, or community initiative. You will think about the purpose, the target audience, the message, and how to attract and engage an audience for your event. The focus is not on how large or polished the event is, but on your own development. What role do you take on within the team? How do you collaborate with others, and how do you connect with a target audience or external partner? Afterwards, you will reflect with a lecturer on your role and your development.

What will you learn?

You will develop skills in project-based working: planning, collaborating, executing, and evaluating. You will also learn how to connect with a target audience and how your efforts can contribute to meaningful social impact.

Structure of the activity "From idea to event"

Julia Herwaarden

Social impact
Social impact

3.1 Appreciation and connection
The student connects with others and/or their context in an appreciative manner.

4.1 Inclusive mindset and skills
The student embraces diversity and demonstrates this by communicating effectively and collaborating respectfully with people from different backgrounds or perspectives.

Collaborating – social skills
While organising the event, you work intensively with fellow students, the chosen charity and possibly external partners (for example, in the form of sponsorship). This requires you to listen to different ideas and backgrounds, coordinate, reach compromises and collaborate constructively to achieve a shared result. In doing so, you practise skills such as active listening, giving feedback and conversational techniques. This helps you learn to take different perspectives into account and communicate in an open and respectful manner.

During the assessment, you demonstrate how you made use of diversity within your team (what role you had and how that went) and how you contributed to positive collaboration and atmosphere.

Connecting – caring for others and the world
Because you are working on an event that serves a societal purpose, you focus not only on the outcome but also on the significance of your efforts for others. You explore how your choices and actions contribute to a positive experience for the target audience and to raising awareness around the chosen cause.

During the assessment, you demonstrate how you established a connection with the target audience, context and, where applicable, external partners. For example, by explaining how you shaped the event, how you attracted visitors, or how you collaborated with partners.
